Interested in becoming a referee?
The first step is to become certified with USSF. There are two levels for beginners to choose from a grade 9 (recreational referee), which is an 8 hour class, or grade 8 referee, which is a 16 hour class. Go to www.kyreferee.com to register for a class. The Northern KY area is district one. The Kyreferee website is updated with class information about a month before the classes are held which is February/March and July/August for new ref classes.
Current Referees
If you are currently a referee wanting to continue your education (upgrade) or getting recertifiied, you can visit www.kyreferee.com.
Recertification Courses are held in all four districts during November and December each year. Pre-registering for a course through this website is required for anyone desiring to recertify in Kentucky.
Grade 8 (black patch) and grade 9 (blue patch) referees are required to recertify their license for each calendar year. If the initial license is obtained at a course after August 1st, it is current for the remainder of that year plus the entire next year. Otherwise licenses are only valid for the current calendar year (January 1 - December 31). Recertification involves attending a one day five hour course, passing an exam (retests are free), and costs $60.00. You can recertify anywhere in our state that you desire.
